Top 5: Burgundy Lips

One of my favorite makeup trends is, without a doubt, the burgundy lip…all deep, rich shades that are seemingly wine inspired. Don’t get me wrong, I am an equal opportunity lipstick fanatic, but my go to is most often a deeper, sultry shade. Especially in these winter holiday months, a dark lip can be bold and classy, not to mention quite complimentary to the barrage of metallic and sparkles that are often donned. I have put together my **current** top 5 favorite burgundy shades to help further acquaint you with this brilliant look. (In no particular order):

1. Brand: Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick
Shade: Menace (rich wine)
Price: 21$
Available: Sephora

2. Brand: MAC
Shade: Rebel (pictured) for a slightly more purple undertone, or Living Legend for something a little deeper and darker.
Price: 16$
Available: MAC counter/store/online

3. Brand: L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge
Shade: Persistent Plum
Price: 10$
Available: Ulta/drugstores

4. Brand: Kat Von D Studded Kiss
Shade: Wolvesmouth (metallic berry)
Price: 21$

5. Brand: Nars
Shade: Charlotte (oxblood burgundy)
Price: 32$
Available: Sephora

So pretty, right!! I intentionally did not speak to each individual product in depth because I wanted attention to fall on the visual aesthetic of the actual pigmentation, not the formulation or actual finish and review of such. I am currently loving a more matte finish to my lip, so even if the product has a satin or gloss finish I can use a little pressed powder/eyeshadow/etc to mattify to my personal taste. If gloss is more your thing, gloss it up my friends! One thing I do not skip over, especially with a dark lip, is the liner! For a deeply colored pucker I always make sure to first line AND fill in my lips with a corresponding lip liner (after a coat or two of my eos balm). This will not only define your lip, but filling in the lip in its entirety will help your lip color stay put and achieve maximum longevity.

I hope that you, too, also find yourself embracing this trend. If you have a fave burgundy/wine-spired shade other than those I mentioned, please share in the comments!
