ipsy: Beauty Rocks

Another great month if you’re an ipsy glam bag subscriber, at least if you got a bag like mine!! Once again I am utterly impressed with the products I have been receiving and this is just my 4th bag. I switched to ipsy going into 2014 once I was developing lacklustre feelings for my Birchbox (which was the same price, $10/month). I’ve seen fellow makeup artists/friends blog and instagram about ipsy, and thought hey, why not. Here we are now, and I’ve discovered so many new products and brands that I’m excited about. The April 2014 bag was titled: Beauty Rocks. Here it is:

*Tinted Lip Balm by Cailyn
First of all, the packaging on this is really cool; I love that the little brush twists off the top, so it’s easy to keep everything together. The color I received was “Apple Pink” and it’s a very pretty natural pink, perfect for Spring. And for a tinted lip product it is actually quite pigmented, and long-lasting!! Cailyn was a new brand for me, so I love the great first impression it made with me. It is a matte lip balm, so if that’s not your thing you’re going to want to pop a gloss over it, but for me, it’s lovely as is. The actual product formula itself contains what Cailyn calls a 3D Smart Film Former, which stabilizes the pigment powders of the balm, allowing the color to be vibrant longer; it doesn’t smudge and doesn’t need to be reapplied. I actually slept in this and I was still good in the morning, minus a smudge on the back of my hand where I was apparently sleeping all crazy. The balm is moisturizing since it contains carnauba wax and beeswax (so be careful if you do have an allergy!!), which allows your lips to achieve a healthy feel naturally, repairing dryness and preventing wrinkles. *Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil
Well, hello Urban Decay, so glad to see you here!! I am no stranger to UD, and it is no secret that I am quite smitten with the brand, using it both professionally and personally. This eyeliner is the ultra-plush version of the the 24/7 glide-on pencil, providing precision lines, rich color, and long-lasting water proof wear. I highly recommend this eyeliner, in fact, it’s one of my top 3 go-to’s. I usually pick up mine at Ulta but you can also shop online at http://www.urbandecay.com, where right now, for limited time, you can enter in code: UDIPSY to receive a free gift when you spend $35 or more.

*Demeter Jasmine Perfume Oil Roll On
Okay, so Demeter is a pretty familiar fragrance line that I have come to know for their true to name scents. I was at Ulta one day just testing them alllll…they once had a special Play Doh anniversary scent, and hello childhood, it was dead on. So seeing that this scent was Jasmine, well, mehh. I am not a huge fan of this particular scent when it’s mixed with other notes, let alone on its own in the more fragrant oil form. The scent is officially described as “an exotic, sweet, warm floral bouquet”…yeah, no. Maybe I just don’t dig floral scents. But, on the upside, Demeter has over 250 (yes, 250!!) different fragrances to choose from, so there is something for everybody. http://www.demeterfragrance.com takes you to their site, and entering code: 20ipsydfl will get you 20% off your purchase.

*microdermabrasion by dr. brandt
I love this product; in fact it just might get its very own post down the road. Obviously I have used it before so I again found myself in familiar, yet welcomed, territory. Basically it is a great at home alternative to clinical microdermabrasion treatments. It removes dead skin cells and softens the skin, which in turn allows for better absorption of other facial products. Other benefits include diminishing fine lines, skin discoloration and acne marks. It’s recommended use is 1-2 times a week, allowing at least 3 days in between treatments. And since it’s safe for all skin types anyone can benefit from it; the PR and I actually have shared product in the past. It has a fresh smell, and your skin really does feel amazing after use. A full size is a little pricey, at 78$ for a full size, but if you have ever considered actual microdermabrasion treatments, this product contains pharmaceutical-grade crystals that help to mimic professional treatments. Allure even voted it the best facial scrub in 2012, so believe me when I say this is good stuff. Visit http://www.drbrandtskincare.com for more details and to check out additional products.

*pop! goes the shadow by Elizabeth Mott
This was the last little guy in my April glam bag, and a new little guy to me at that. A sample of “Champagne” eye shadow from pop! goes the shadow by Elizabeth Mott, http://www.elizabethmott.com. It is an easily buildable and blendable shadow, and I found that the color is great both for the eyes and for highlighting. For the short time I tried it I didn’t notice any immediate creasing, and that was with no primer, so always a good sign. A full size single shadow is about $12.99 so it’s right on par, actually a tad cheaper, with Urban Decay, TooFaced, and so on.

I was reading some other reviews that ipsy subscribers wrote about their April glam bags, and some people were apparently not as impressed as I was. If you are a subscriber and find yourself a little disappointed in your bags, make sure to retake the quiz that matches products to you, before you give up all hope. If you aren’t a subscriber, but love beauty and discovering new products, then I urge you to check out ipsy; you can cancel at any time there are no contracts!!
Other than all that jazz, hope everyone is having a great week; stay tuned for some great posts coming up!! XO.
