ipsy: Destination Beauty

I do not like to start a post off with an apology, but that’s where this is heading, guys…I am sorry for the poor iPhone photography of the included photos. I was so excited to tear into the March glam bag that I was in bed while doing so and didn’t have the greatest of lighting to work with, I did my best, well…no I didn’t, but since I’ve already used products out of the bag I could not go back and restage and what have you. I did however make sure that the swatches I included for color reference were in true to color light, so of that you can be assure of.
The March ipsy bag (my third glam bag, mind you) was even better than last month’s, which I am hoping is a trend with them!! The bag itself featured artwork by Klari Reis (http://www.klariart.com) from her geography based series, “Street Anatomy”. This bag showcases San Francisco, which is coincidently Kari’s hometown and the headquarters for ipsy.

I swear, opening these little bags is like Christmas morning…the anticipation of pouring out your stocking to pour out all the little treasures that were just too obscure to wrap. (Jesus IS my homeboy, let’s be clear). I can’t say I poured everything out, since all the little gifties were so strategically packed withi, but I had the same vigor as a 6 year old tearing into some legos, or whatever it is 6 year old love these days. Here’s the contents:

Let’s discuss…

* Nicole by OPI Roughles  nail lacquer
Nicole by OPI has launched their newest collection, Roughles (which translates to “Ruffles”). These are textured nail lacquers (think, a fine grained sandpaper). Available in 4 speckled pastel shades: purple, pink, turquoise and yellow. The finish of the polish does look speckled, or “pebbled” as the official description speaks. I received the turquoise shade, “On What Grounds?”, and it really is a very pretty, on trend shade. If you want a matte effect don’t use a clear top coat, but I would employ one simply to distract from the texture of the lacquer, it does take some getting used too. Textured nail polishes are popping up left and right though, and while I have not come across one where the textured doe not bother me, at least the colors are rich and bold which is a plus. Visit http://www.nicolebyopi.com to purchase and check out their other products.

*Be a Bombshell Bora Bora Eyeshadow Quad
This is my first encounter with Be a Bombshell cosmetics so I decided to do a little extra research. The company was started in 2011 by Tonya Thompson, who previously worked in Product Development and Brand Management. So, right off the bat I appreciate entrepreneurial women (and men) who pursue their passion with much success. I am, however, quite picky (which I suppose is putting it mildly) when it comes to eyeshadow especially. Although the colors within the Bora Bora quad are quite lovely, they swatched quite sheer. I mean, even ELF quads produce a richer payout when swatching. I am partial to rich color payout, like with Urban Decay, Smashbox and MAC. Given that the Be a Bombshell products are at a similar pricepoint to, let’s say, MAC, I was left rather unimpressed with this particular product, and as much as it pains me to give a negative review, I don’t see myself recommending this when I know there are far superb products that I personally use and stand by.

*Pixi Beauty Flawless Beauty Primer
I was quite excited to receive this one! I love Pixi and I love a good primer, so marry the two together and you get Pixi’s Flawless Beauty Primer. We really got to talk about this because this stuff is amazing, and if I need to I will convince you of it!! The formula is great for all skin types, so no worries there. It also contains pearl extract to help with skin revitalization, protection and anti-aging. Truffle extract is rich in amino acids and minerals which work to tone and hydrate the skin. You do realize we are talking about a primer right?! Amazing. Vitamin E helps skin elasticity, vitamin A is an antioxidant, and Vitamin C nourishes the skin. If you aren’t all too familiar with skin primers I recommend you get familiar. Primer helps to even out the surface of the skin, filling in fine lines and pores, so that your foundation has a smooth surface to be applied to, and can achieve it’s ultimate lasting power. The full size for this particular product is $22, which is right in line with others on the market. You may have seen the Pixi line at Target, but you can also purchase at http://www.pixibeauty.com.
BONUS: Now through April 15, enter the code FlawlessPixi at checkout and receive 25% off any purchase!! So, go, get to it!! (after you finish reading this post that is).

*bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready
Just as I love a good primer (or mascara, or blush, or highlighter…), I truly do love a good lipstick. Lipstick is one of those things I have to have on me at all times. Even if you are doing the most neutral and natural of makeup looks, a nice, rich lip shade can take things to a whole other level. This shade from the Marvelous Moxie bareMinerals, “Get Ready” is a perfect medium lip tone that can complement any look. It has a creamy, super-saturated, highly pigmented color, and it glides on so smooth with a satin finish. I loved the way my lips felt after applying, and the lipstick lasted all night…literally, I slept in it! The product contains a hydrating complex for nourishing and conditioning, as well as Abyssinian Oil and Omega Fatty Acids to keep lips supple and smooth; which is totally evident when you put it on. My lips did look a little fuller, and by using a lip liner with your application then you can achieve even more of a voluminous effect. I highly recommend!! At a price point of $16, it wouldn’t be completely out of the question to have a couple of these guys in your makeup arsenal. Check out your local bareMinerals retailer or check them out online at http://www.bareMinerals.com.

Happy Hump Day to all.
