Top 10: Oscars Fashion 2014.

We’ve all seen our social news feeds abuzz with recaps from last night’s Academy Awards. I love a good awards show as much as the next person, but the Oscars are always one of my favorites. Maybe it’s the class, maybe it’s the glamour, maybe it’s just the general excitement of watching all the best in Hollywood gather in one spot to have a good time. I mean, Ellen ordered pizza and managed to pull off the most epic selfie to date. One of the biggest things for me is to see what everyone looks like: who wore what, how was their hair and makeup, and who styled them. This years Oscars was nothing short of amazing when it came to the fashion. I was nothing short of impressed by the statement making ensembles and it was really hard to narrow it down to just 10, but I did, so here they are:

10.) Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta

Maybe it’s because I’m Gatsby obsessed, maybe it’s because I love almost anything that sparkles, but Jennifer Garner’s silver fringe dress was absolutely stunning. I love how she let the dress take center stage by keeping her hair soft and down, and no statement necklace to compete. Her simple bracelets and clutch brought everything together, and the subtle pop of red from her manicure was just enough.

9.) Olivia Wilde in Valentino

I love Olivia Wilde (and please, everyone, tell me you saw that oh so cute picture of Jason Sudeikis stopping on the red carpet to take his own photo of her on his phone, awww), and this mod inspired Valentino dress flattered her baby bump perfectly. The black pocketed (yes, the dress had pockets!) dress was very classy. and the white fabric flowing from the back gave a very chic contrast that made the dress interesting. The high neck line with the love scoop in the back added that extra bit of glamour, which was all brought together by her coordinating black and white bangles, clutch and statement ring. Her hair was up, but soft, so her drop earrings gave the perfect accent and sparkle.

8.) Cate Blanchett in Armani

Radiant Orchid may be Pantone’s color of the year, but blushes and nudes seem to be on red carpets and runways everywhere, and who can fault anyone when you are wearing something as stunning as Cate’s gown. It almost reminded me of little sparkling flower petals. The Swarovski crystal embellishment was both pretty and complementary to Cate’s fair complexion and the flow of the bottom of the dress gave spot on balance. Her hair’s deep part and soft vintage wave allowed her sparkling drop earrings to standout and the overall look was perfect,

7.) Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein

Naomi was a mixed bag for me last night. I honestly didn’t care for how undone her hair looked, but her dress made up for it ten fold. White was definitely her color last night and made me wish I could pull of such a look. The cap sleeves were different from your standard issue halter or strapless model. Paired with the floor length cut of the dress and the shimmer of the icy bead embellishments, well, we certainly weren’t looking at Naomi’s hair at that point. Her geometric clutch and red lip added interest and glamour and her overall finished look popped on the red carpet.

6.) Glenn Close in Zac Posen

photo (9)

Zac Posen never disappoints and last night was no exception, but can we please talk about how absolutely amazing Glenn Close looked last night, Her black halter dress with matching long-sleeved jacket was unexpected and fabulous. The mix of black on black pattern and fit into flare cut made this a piece that can span across age gaps. Glenn’s simple accessories and black jewel embellished clutch were simple yet significant. I love this look. Love.

5.) Margot Robbie in YSL

photo (6)

Newly brunette Margot Robbie was perfection in this YSL piece by designer Heidi Slimane. A floor length black gown is a classic choice, but the cut of the back with the sparkle bow back detail made this gown step into a league of it’s own. I love a good bow so I instantly felt drawn to this look. Margot was also sporting the deep part vintage wave look, but her darker lip and defined brow gave the look just the right amount of edge. I am officially jealous.

4.) Emma Watson in Vera Wang

Hermione has style and this Vera Wang gown is definitive proof. The two tone look, fitted body and all over shimmer was another piece that instantly drew me in. I love that Emma wore her hair up so you could really take note of the youthful cut of the dress at top. The little bit of flow at the hem made the dress more glamorous and age-appropriate. Emma’s jewelry, specifically the rings, gave added edge. Now, if only Vera could bust out a dress like this for her Kohl’s line.

3.) Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior

Top 3! I have my theory that Jennifer Lawrence can do no wrong, and this look is just another fine example why. The floor length red Dior gown in perfect, and absolutely reminds us that red is Jennifer’s color. The peplum is on trend and chic and her minimal accessories and combed back hair make her look effortlessly impeccable. I could write a whole blog on why I love J. Law based on last night’s events alone; her personality only adds to her appeal.

2.) Anne Hathaway in Gucci

This dress is killer. It was another dress that I saw and my mouth dropped. I am looking at it again as I type this and I do believe I am drooling. I love this dress; I have visualized myself in this dress, so much so that it was almost my number one pick here. The black silk halter would have been classic perfection, but add in the crystal studded embellishment of the bodice and hello quintessential rocker-glam. Super simple accessories let the bodice remain focus, and wow…just wow. Thank you Anne and thank you Gucci.

1.) Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace

Here it is my number one, and o-m-g isn’t it amazing. Kate Hudson has always embraced that perfect edgy chic vibe and this drapey yet fitted gown with detachable cape detail was a head turner. The ivory color was a perfect choice, as it meshed brilliantly with Kate’s blonde, vintage-styled har (minimal accessory and old Hollywood hair was quite the trend last night). The small train complemented the scoop back abd the plunging neck line was super sultry. The embellishment gave off the perfect amount of sparkle and Kate’s smokey eye/nude lip combo was beautiful. This dress had everything; it is everything. Again, I am both in awe and jealous that it’s not hanging in my closet.

Did you guys have a favorite last night (I know, it’s hard to choose!)?? Comment below with your number one look!!
I am currently semi-snowed in so stay warm and cozy everyone. I’m ready to fill my giant leopard print mug up with sweet tea (yes, cold sweet tea) and get my lounge on.

XO.
